Petrer, Alicante
€495,000

Detached Villa

Loma Bada (Petrer) is an exclusive community in an exquisite setting and home to some of the finest quality properties in the Alicante region. The advantage of living in Loma Bada is being inland but only 25 minutes from the airport, the beach and the city, all in Alicante. If you are going to choose an exclusive location, then it makes sense to choose an exclusive property. There are many fine properties and then there are the few that really stand out, and this one is undoubtedly one of them. Forget for now the wonderful exterior spaces; we will come to those because they are very important, but what is more important, in my opinion, is a house with a heart and a soul. Loma Bada was constructed in the late 1960´s through to the early 1970´s and was referred to as “millionaire´s row”. Whilst the build quality was excellent during those years the architectural accent was on “big”. If you have stayed at typical Florida villas, you will know what I mean; big but something missing, a heart and a soul which is ok for a holiday stay but not for a home. This property is big on soul and has a massive heart and that has come from the owners who wanted something very special when they moved here, and they have achieved it with flying colours. The interior is big, 339m2 of living space, but somehow, the owners have installed a feeling of cosiness and warmth. The lounge/diner is a stunning space and is definitely the heart of the property. From here are the few steps to the raised level where the bedrooms and bathrooms are and also from here into the eat-in kitchen and access to the fabulous lower floor. The five bedrooms on the raised level, it would be incorrect to call it “upper” as we really are talking about a few steps, are all double bedrooms and are beautifully presented as are the four bathrooms and I am a great fan of living spaces and sleeping spaces being separate. The kitchen is modern and fitted with high quality units and this is where you can find the stairs down to the lower level which is, to all intents and purposes, an exquisite self-contained apartment but, if not being used that way is a stunning lounge/dining area with an open kitchen and then a separate area up a few steps to a double bedroom and a fully fitted bathroom. The lower level really is spectacular and has so many traditional features, it is an amazing dining area for 12 or even 14 and it stays cool even in summer. Every detail of the property reflects careful investment and thoughtful upgrades, including new windows, updated plumbing and electrics, modernised kitchens and bathrooms, and improvements to the swimming pool and garden irrigation system. Comfort is ensured year-round with air conditioning on the upper level, full central heating, and an efficient pellet burner system. The home also benefits from belonging to a solar-powered community, offering energy efficiency and electricity credits for unused power. Now to address the exterior areas and first of all the buildings. The garage is made for two cars and not two miniature cars which is the current fashion. The BBQ house is just perfect and this is where so much of the cooking will be done when you are living in Spain and there is a good-sized workshop. The elevated pool terrace, complete with a saltwater swimming pool, outdoor shower, and shaded pergola, provides a perfect setting for long summer days and evening entertaining. A charming wooden gazebo, secluded seating areas, and a lovely summer kitchen which further enhances the outdoor lifestyle, while additional garden levels offer the potential for an orchard or further personalisation. The property is not overlooked to the rear and has superb views towards the mountains. Essential amenities, including supermarkets, healthcare services, and leisure facilities, are all within easy reach, making this an ideal permanent residence or luxury retreat. This is more than a home—it is a lifestyle defined by space, tranquillity, and understated elegance.

Sax, Alicante
€349,995

Detached Villa

Stunning mountain retreat with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in the sought-after Sax area. This beautiful villa offers breathtaking 360° mountain views and complete privacy, making it the perfect peaceful escape. The property benefits from a high-standard fully solar-powered system, helping to keep running costs extremely low, and also includes a generator backup option for added peace of mind. Inside, you will find a spacious living room with vaulted ceilings and a stunning feature fireplace that can also be enjoyed from outside the property. All bedrooms are generously sized with plenty of storage, while the bathrooms are finished to a lovely standard. The large kitchen is ideal for family living and entertaining, with doors opening directly onto the patio area where you can relax and take in the spectacular surrounding scenery. This truly wonderful home combines comfort, character, and energy efficiency in a stunning mountain setting. Properties like this rarely stay on the market for long, so early viewing is highly recommended. Why Sax? There are no traffic lights, it has a 13th-century castle, one of seven on the castle route but ours is the best and there are no traffic lights, parking meters and hardly enough crime to even mention due to the town having full employment. What? That isn´t enough? Sax is so popular because it is far enough inland to be “inland” yet it is only 30 minutes to Alicante Airport and 35 minutes to the beach.  Access is by the A31 Dual Carriageway Alicante to Madrid Autovia (Motorway to you) which runs just outside of the town, by rail and coach from Alicante so you can go to the beach and not have to take your car, and we are only eight minutes’ drive away from the AVE station at Villena. The AVE is the high-speed train from Alicante to Madrid which has only four stops. From boarding the train will have you in Madrid in 2hrs 9mins for as little as 9€ if you are lucky enough, but around 25€ if not. Let us stick with the town of Sax for now rather than escaping to the beach or Madrid. Sax is dominated by its 13th-century castle known as the Headlight and Guardian of The Border a landscape of history and rock. When driving back home to Sax after daylight the sight of the castle, fully lit, and seemingly floating in the air is one of the most welcoming sights I have ever experienced. It´s a sign we are almost home. Commercially, it is the home of three major international businesses selling “persianas y toldos”, window blinds and sun canopies and a shoe industry that means if you recently bought a pair of shoes in a UK Department Store, for example, the chances are they could have been made in Sax or nearby Elda and we now supply 60% of the footwear used in all Spanish hospitals. It is an incredible feat. No pun intended. Both Sax and the smaller town of Salinas just eight minutes drive away have close to full employment and lots of opportunity which means our crime statistics are very low and both towns are safe in a way that is hard to imagine if you have arrived from the UK or Holland. Walking around whatever time of day or night is a pleasure rather than something to fear. Sax is small enough for everyone to know each other and a family who has a son or daughter who is a criminal brings shame on the family. I suppose it´s like when I was growing up in the North West during the 60´s. Recently we have seen the opening of a Consum supermarket, the equivalent of a Waitrose or Marks & Spencer Food Hall whilst there has been a Hiperber and Dia, both excellent supermarkets for as long as I can remember, and if that isn´t enough there is a Carrefour (Think Tesco) eight minutes’ drive away within a shopping mall complex that has a cinema showing films in English with Spanish subtitles. There are also six gyms in Sax and a superb one in the shopping mall along with Ten Pin Bowling etc Sushi Restaurant and many others. Sax is served wonderfully well with schools, our son was eight when we moved here and reluctantly, we put him into a state school, he always went to a private school in Manchester, and within six months he was fluent in two languages and following five years in a secondary school went on to study Pharmacy at Complutense in Madrid one of Spain´s most famous and prestigious universities. However, he didn´t like the idea of going into pharmacy as a career so he is studying law and working as my business partner. He already has a diploma in Spanish Property Law. For health, Sax and Spain, in general, is far superior to the UK. In the town, we have a new Health Centre with eight doctors, two nurses, a diabetes clinic and a 24/7 Emergency Walk/In Centre. We have three pharmacies, two of which have at least one person who speaks English and their advice is always excellent. Ten minutes away in Elda is the remarkable award-winning University Hospital El Virgen De Salud where the surgeons are second to none and the food is atrocious, well it can’t all be good!! Newly opened is the Fibromyalgia centre offering support and therapies for those suffering from acute pain. There are now three Language Schools in the town and the town hall ran a scheme for language swapping that may be run again. Learning Spanish is a lot less difficult than it may seem and there are new ways of learning that concentrate on conversational Spanish. There are restaurants and bars aplenty with prices that are at first beyond belief and a three or four-course lunch of good quality can easily be found for 13€ or less. For a special occasion, there is Casa Mami and El Fuente restaurant at the hotel Fuente del Cura which are a little more expensive but great food experiences can be had.  Check out our Facebook page for restaurant reviews and other stuff. Nearby Villena, ten minutes or so up the A31, has some excellent restaurants including the very fashionable Tita´s Gastrobar and the stunning, in my opinion, Condumio. In Elda, ten minutes in the other direction there is Xambel, Xhagar, Fabrica, La Sirena and Tenaz, all very good restaurants and surprisingly inexpensive. In most bars and cafes, a coffee and toast for breakfast will cost no more than 2,50€ and the coffee is possibly the best in Europe. Our biggest challenge these days is finding properties as opposed to selling them as Sax and Salinas as both have become incredibly popular as there are very few building permits left in either of the towns and yet they are growing. So, come look around and enjoy.

Why So Many People Choose to Buy Property in Spain

For decades, Spain has been one of the world's most popular destinations for people looking to relocate, retire, or simply enjoy more sunshine in their lives. From the long sandy beaches of the Costa Blanca to the golf courses and marinas of the Costa del Sol, and the quieter, more affordable coastlines of Costa Cálida and Murcia, Spain offers something for every kind of buyer.

Many of our visitors are dreaming of long lunches on sun-soaked terraces, morning walks along the seafront, and a slower pace of life surrounded by friendly local communities and a thriving expat scene. Others are drawn by the practicalities — affordable property prices compared to much of Northern Europe, excellent year-round climate, direct flight connections, and a well-established support network for international buyers.

Whatever stage of life you're at, whether you're searching for a holiday retreat, a permanent home, or a smart property investment, My Casa Away connects you directly with experienced local estate agents who know these areas inside and out, and can guide you through every step of buying property in Spain.

Frequently Asked Questions

Spain remains one of Europe's most popular property markets thanks to its climate, lifestyle, affordability and strong rental demand in coastal areas. Many buyers purchase a property for personal use as a holiday home, while others look to rent it out when they're not using it. As with any property purchase, it's worth researching the local area, working with a licensed estate agent, and getting independent legal advice before proceeding.
The Costa Blanca, Costa del Sol, Costa Cálida, Murcia and Alicante regions are among the most popular with international buyers and expats, thanks to their established communities, amenities, and easy access from major airports. You can browse properties in each of these areas using our location pages to compare prices and lifestyles.
Yes, there are no restrictions preventing foreign nationals from buying property in Spain. Non-residents will need a NIE (foreigner identification number) to complete a purchase, which your estate agent or a local solicitor can help you arrange.
The process typically involves finding a property you love, agreeing a price with the seller, signing a reservation contract, carrying out legal checks, signing the private purchase contract, and finally completing at the notary. Local estate agents listed on My Casa Away can talk you through the process step by step and recommend trusted legal professionals in the area.
Buyers should budget for additional costs on top of the purchase price, which typically include transfer tax or VAT (depending on whether the property is resale or new build), notary and registration fees, and legal fees. These usually add up to around 10–14% of the purchase price, though this can vary by region — your estate agent can confirm the figures for the specific area you're interested in.
Yes, many Spanish banks offer mortgages to non-resident buyers, though terms and the percentage you can borrow may differ from those available to residents. It's worth speaking to a mortgage broker or your estate agent early in the process so you know your budget before you start viewing properties.
Spain is home to large, well-established international communities, particularly along the Costa Blanca, Costa del Sol and Costa Cálida, with English-speaking services, social clubs, and a relaxed pace of life. Many expats describe the lifestyle change as one of the best decisions they've made, citing the climate, food, outdoor living and friendly culture as major draws. Browse our blog for more on what life in Spain is really like.
