Lo Pagan is one of the beautiful and most popular resorts lying on the Mar Menor. Boasts some fine beaches and shallow, safe bathing waters - ideal for family vacations. This fishing village grew as a prime holiday destination for wealthy Murcians who built their houses along the coast. Santiago has a very lovely promenade flanked by attractive palm trees. Today Santiago is still popular with the Spanish for their vacations but also attracts tourists from all over Europe and although it has a modern air, it has still maintained its fishing village atmosphere. Santiago de la Ribera has about 4 kilometres of fine sandy beaches which can be enjoyed by holiday makers and can get very busy during the hot summer months when both Spanish and international tourist arrive to enjoy the sunshine and the warm waters of the Mar Menor. Santiago de la Ribera looks across the Mar Menor to the narrow strip of land known as La Manga - a famous and exclusive sports resort. Lo Pagan comes under the region of San Pedro Del Pinatar which is a traditional working town resting on the north shores of the Mar Menor. it has many shops, a modern church and its main industry is fishing . You can see the fishing boats unloading their catch at the fishing port which overlooks the north end of the La Manga Strip. There are some absolutely fantastic beaches in and around the town of San Pedro del Pinatar. Drive out to the dunes of Playa de la Torre Derribada and Llana beach, where there is a sports harbour and a restaurant, along with ample parking. From here the views of the distant mountains, the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor, and La Manga are excellent. Stay till the early evening to enjoy the amazing sunset. The town itself has excellent sports facilities including tennis and paddle. Hire a bike and enjoy the local scenery as you peddle lazily along the flat quiet roads. Runners and walkers alike will enjoy the promenade and beaches for their chosen activity. The Saltmill of Quintin located on the "Playa de la Mota" used to take water from the Mar Menor to the salt-works. A modern pump next to it has overtaken its function. You can see the flamingos feeding amongst the reeds on the salt flats.
