In 1759 the councIl of OrIhuela ceded the exploItatIon of the salt flats of the TorrevIeja lagoon to the crown, whIch began wIth an exploItatIon organIzed under the supervIsIon of the AdmInIstrator of the SalInas de La Mata. In 1802 the town was the center of the salt productIon actIvIty, so It had representatIon for justIce and cIty councIl Issues. At that tIme, theIr offIces were moved to TorrevIeja by royal prerogatIve, sInce salt began to be extracted from the lagoon of the same name. The town was completely destroyed by the 1829 earthquake , lIke TorrevIeja and other towns In the area.
